About VASER Liposuction
VASER is an acronym that stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance. This phrase describes the technological process by which VASER liposuction breaks down the fat cells under your skin. More specifically, VASER technology uses ultrasound frequencies. Ultrasound energy allows for a more precise and gentler extraction of fat than other specialized liposuction techniques. When ultrasound waves are applied to the targeted fat, it loosens the bonds that the fat cells have with each other, and helps to detach them from the tissue where fat cells are stored. (1)
VASER Liposuction can be performed on numerous parts of the body, including:
- Abdomen
- Back
- Flanks
- Ankles
- Calves
- Thighs
- Hips
- Buttocks
- Chest
- Upper Arms
- Neck
- Chin
Benefits of VASER Liposuction
Ultrasound technology makes VASER liposuction a highly beneficial means of fat removal. Because of how well it breaks down and prepares fat for removal, it provides smoother and more uniform results. This makes the procedure quicker and easier to perform. The ultrasound energy has a tightening effect on the skin, which can make for an even better cosmetic result once the fat has been removed. VASER liposuction has also been shown to improve insulin levels and insulin-sensitivity in overweight patients. (2)
For traditional liposuction procedures, a surgeon has to use the suction tool (the cannula) to break up the fat manually. This can irritate the tissue that stores your fat, causing swelling and making for a longer recovery time. With VASER, breaking down and separating the fat before removal makes for less blood loss and damage to adjacent blood vessels and nerves. Therefore the procedure requires less downtime and discomfort.
VASER liposuction can make you feel more confidence in your body. It can eliminate those pockets of fat that you thought were impervious to diet and exercise. Your self-esteem will shine once more when you finally get the body that you have been working towards.
Who is a Candidate for VASER Liposuction?
VASER Liposuction is best for adults who have already lost most of their excess weight through diet and exercise. Liposuction is not a weight loss solution, but it can help to remove stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. It is not designed to address any of the health concerns that come with being overweight, as it is merely a cosmetic procedure. If you are not within 30 pounds of your target weight, you should consider trying a healthier diet and exercise program before you receive liposuction.
An ideal candidate for VASER liposuction is in relatively good health. It is important that your body can heal and recover properly. If you have low skin elasticity, removing excess fat from your body might cause loose and sagging skin. You can talk to Dr. Allen about pairing VASER liposuction with a skin tightening procedure.

Preparation
We will provide you with personalized instructions on how to best prepare for your VASER liposuction surgery. Taking the right preparatory steps will help to ensure that you have a safe treatment experience and achieve effective results.
If you smoke, you should stop in the weeks before your surgery. The side effects of smoking can affect your ability to heal, and can lead to complications. We may also ask you to stop or start taking certain prescription medications prior to your surgery. In particular, you should avoid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like aspirin to prevent excess bleeding. Be sure to give us a full list of the medications you take at your personal consultation.
For the best results, you should maintain a steady weight leading up to your surgery. Drastic changes in weight can affect your ability to recover and can complicate your personalized plan.
You should make sure that you prepare your recovery environment before your surgery. Make sure that you have everything you might need on hand at home, like food and water. Try to resolve any pressing concerns at work and at home so that you can relax while your body heals.
VASER Liposuction Procedure
VASER liposuction is typically performed as an outpatient surgery. On the day of your treatment, your surgeon will administer either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with I.V. sedation. You will have discussed and planned the best option for managing discomfort with your provider beforehand.
Once you have been anesthetized, Dr. Allen will inject your treatment area with a tumescent solution, usually made up of saline, anesthetic and epinephrine. This solution serves to shrink the blood vessels and expand the fat for removal. This process minimizes swelling and bleeding as a result of the removal of fat.
Next, Dr. Allen will make a small incision on the treatment area. She will apply the ultrasound energy to your fat through the incision, further breaking it up and preparing it for removal. Once it is ready, they will remove the fat using a thin suction tool called a cannula. Dr. Allen will close your incisions and the procedure will be complete. We will monitor your vitals as you recover from the anesthesia, and you can go home when you are ready.
Recovery
Recovery from VASER liposuction typically requires several days of downtime. You can expect soreness, bruising and swelling in your treatment areas. Most patients report minimal discomfort following their surgery. These factors depend on the intensity of each particular liposuction treatment, its location, and how much excess fat is being removed. You can discuss ways to manage discomfort during recovery with Dr. Allen.
We advise that you avoid strenuous activity for up to three weeks to allow your body the time and energy it needs to recover. When a few days have passed and you feel up to it, you can try light exercise like a walk around the neighborhood. This can get your blood circulating and promote a quicker recovery. It’s also important that you stay hydrated while you recover, as liposuction can remove lots of water from the body.
Results
The results of your VASER liposuction will be mostly visible immediately after the procedure. The swelling will go down completely after three to six months, revealing the incredible results in all of their glory. Those stubborn pockets of fat will finally be gone, and you can celebrate getting one step closer to your body goals.
A unique result common to this procedure is skin-tightening. While VASER liposuction is not a skin-tightening treatment in its own right, the heat generated by the ultrasound waves can promote collagen production in your skin. Collagen production has a rejuvenating effect on the skin, tightening its structure and improving its overall health and appearance. If you have mild skin laxity, this process will reduce excess or sagging skin in the areas of fat removal.
Are VASER Liposuction Results Permanent?
Once fat cells are removed from the body, they cannot regrow. However, it is possible for the remaining fat cells to increase in size, so you should maintain a steady weight if you want the results of your procedure to last. It is not uncommon to receive more than one liposuction surgery in a lifetime.
Corresponding & Complementary Procedures
Here at Allen Aesthetic Surgery, we offer procedures that can work in combination with and alongside VASER Liposuction.
Arm Lift
An Arm Lift is a cosmetic surgery in which a surgeon contours the upper arm, removing excess fat, tissue, and skin in the process. This treatment is great for addressing sagging skin in the upper arm area. Liposuction is sometimes used in the process of removing fat. If you are receiving VASER Liposuction in your upper arm area and you have skin laxity or sagging skin, elements of an arm lift procedure can be performed to optimize your cosmetic appearance.
Brazilian Butt Lift
A Brazilian Butt Lift, or BBL, is a cosmetic surgery in which a surgeon enlarges and enhances the buttocks by repurposing excess fat from other areas of the body. A surgeon removes fat from common sites of excess storage like the abdomen or the thighs, they clean and prepare it, and finally inject it into the buttocks. This procedure is remarkably efficient from a cosmetic perspective, because you can achieve slimming in areas where you want it and a more shapely butt at the same time.
