An upper eyelid lift, also known as upper blepharoplasty, is a transformative surgical procedure that enhances the eye area by removing excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids.

The eyes are one of the most expressive features of the face, and maintaining their vitality is key to overall facial harmony. Aging often brings changes like drooping or puffiness, which can create a tired or older appearance. If you are considering rejuvenating your eye area, you could potentially be a good candidate for an upper eyelid lift procedure. When performed with the expertise of a trained professional, an upper eyelid lift can help you achieve a refreshed, more youthful look. This procedure not only improves aesthetics but can also potentially address vision obstruction caused by sagging eyelids, leaving you feeling renewed.

About Upper Eyelid Lift Procedures

An upper eyelid lift focuses on enhancing the upper eyelid’s appearance while improving functionality. Over time, skin laxity and fat accumulation may lead to sagging eyelids, potentially intruding into one’s field of vision and creating a fatigued look. Dr. Allen specializes in blepharoplasty procedures to restore a youthful, invigorated appearance while maintaining a natural appearance. Eyelid lifts are one of the most sought-after cosmetic surgeries in the world providing men and women with remarkable results year after year. Benefits of an Upper Eyelid Lift

Upper eyelid lift procedures provide many potential benefits to patients. There is a reason why this operation is so popular, and that is because of the many advantages of the procedure itself as well as the outcome the surgery provides to patients. Some of these benefits might include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • A Rejuvenated Appearance: Restores the natural beauty of your eyes by correcting drooping and sagging.
  • Enhanced Eyelid Contour: Achieves smoother, more harmonious facial features.
  • Customizable Solutions: Techniques are tailored to fit your unique anatomy and goals.
  • Minimal Scarring: Incisions are discreetly placed in natural folds, resulting in subtle, nearly invisible scars.

The physical changes and overall aesthetic enhancements associated with upper eyelid lift procedures are not the only benefits associated with this procedure. Obtaining the look you desire can help you find a new sense of confidence that allows you to take on the world with a renewed mindset, ultimately leading to remarkable improvements in overall quality of life.

Preparation

Dr. Allen and her team will give you detailed preoperative guidelines to ensure a smooth procedure and will be available to answer any questions you might have. Because this is a surgical procedure, patients are often asked to refrain from using blood-thinning medications, nicotine, and certain supplements well in advance of the procedure. We advise that patients make arrangements for transportation home following the procedure as well as initial at-home care during the beginning of the recovery phase. Additionally, most patients should plan time off work to focus on recovery.

Procedure

An upper eyelid lift is performed in an outpatient setting. An upper eyelid lift is often performed under the use of local anesthesia and oral sedation (a cocktail to help relax you during the procedure). Intravenous sedation is available by patient request. Once the patient is determined to be comfortable, Dr. Allen will begin the procedure by making a discreet incision along the natural crease of your eyelid. She strategically places this incision to minimize visible scarring. Following the incision, she will remove and/or reposition excess skin, fat, and muscle to help you achieve a more youthful and refined look. After making the necessary adjustments, Dr. Allen will carefully close the incisions in a way that will also serve to minimize scarring.

Procedure times will vary for each patient. In general, patients can expect this procedure to take about 30-45 minutes per eye, although it could take longer if any additional treatments are performed.

Recovery

After the procedure, patients may experience mild swelling or bruising, which often subsides within the first week or two. We recommend keeping your head elevated to ensure healthy blood flow. Most patients can return to day-to-day functions within 7 days following the procedure. Strenuous activity, heavy lifting, and your return to work might entail a longer timetable and should be avoided until otherwise noted by Dr. Allen.

Dr. Allen and her team will monitor your recovery during scheduled follow-up appointments, ensuring the entire process runs smoothly. If you have any questions during your recovery, please do not hesitate to reach out to our office so that we can provide you with the information you need.

Results

While results vary, most patients see immediate improvements after surgery, with final results appearing as swelling diminishes. The procedure often delivers long-lasting outcomes, leaving you with smoother, more youthful-looking eyelids and minimal scarring. Dr. Allen and her staff are confident you will be pleased with the outcome of your upper eyelid lift.

Can upper eyelid surgery be combined with other procedures?

Yes! Upper eyelid surgery can often be combined with lower eyelid surgery or facial treatments to achieve a more balanced look, enhancing overall facial harmony.
